It's mysterious and creepy, and it's still flying off the shelves. His 1999 Newbery Medal winner, Holes, centers on a boy wrongly confined to a juvenile detention facility. His first book, Sideways Stories From Wayside School, came out in 1978 - and the wacky collection is still in print. Louis Sachar knows a few things about writing for kids. I also recommend Fuzzy Mud to fans of light-hearted reads with some exciting twists.Close overlay Buy Featured Book Title Fuzzy Mud Author Louis Sachar If you’ve read any of Louis Sachar’s other novels, definitely pick this up. It is also really educational and I think a very wide age range would be interested in this. It’s light and easy to read, but at the same time it deals with more complex conflicts like bullying and the world population growth. You might be worried about this being a middle grade, but actually don’t even think about that. Marshall, the next main character, was not quite as detailed but definitely had some defining qualities.Ĭhad, the bully, was quite steriotypical and rather two dimensional but he was a great addition to the story and was intriguing to read about. She seemed so worried about how she was perceived and how her actions affected her school grades. Tamaya, was the youngest and probably my favourite character. They are great characters who dealt with the situation at hand in very appropriate manners.

Meaning that, we don’t find out huge amounts of their past but it worked. I also love how the characters were definitely present but we only know about them in the present. The plot was fun, and surprisingly well developed considering the short length of the novel. Both plot ideas are so unique and awesome.įuzzy Mud is less than 200 pages long, which shocked me because the plot is developed and interesting and hardly even seems short. Which has won awards and is really extremely original and cool. I have read Louis Sachar’s other book (one of them), Holes. Sachar included just the right amount of mathematic and scientific references. Whilst maths and science might not seem like a fun read, it was great. Like interviews, awesome chapter header detailing and even maths. This book had an incredibly unique overall plot but it was also filled with little, quirky things. What happened? Are Marshall and Tamaya to blame? The next day, Chad is no where to be seen. Along with the school bully, Chad, a mysterious Fuzzy Mud awaits them. What they find is not what they were expecting. Tamaya feels she has no choice but to follow him. But one day, Marshall is acting strange and goes into the woods. These two always walk home together, and avoid the mysterious woods. Both are young high schoolers who live in a fairly small town. Author’s well known previous novel: Holesįuzzy Mud follows two main characters, Marshall and Tamaya.
